Southwell Minster. Minster means the largest and foremost church in the area. Other parishes were built around this.

The bishop of York was granted land in Nottinghamshire in 956 and in 1108 the bishop of York permitted the rebuilding of the Anglican-Saxon church and the building that we see today.

In 1160 to 1170 the towers you see here called the “pepperpot” were completed.

In 1884, after many events took place at the church, it became the mother church this year of the new diocese, and it became the seat of the Bishop and was called “Southwell Cathedral” but still called the historic name “Southwell Minster.”

In 2024, it celebrates 140 years. The Minster opened in 1300.

All in all, I was keen to visit, and I’m so glad I did. I had a grand time.

I was completely mind-blown and had an immense spiritual experience while I was inside. Forty-three stops on the bus and a 6-minute walk were worth it.
